Located at Hupo Port, Uljin Dae Ge Frestival is famous for its crystal clear sea during crab season. Uljin crabs also known as ¡°Dae Ge¡± in Korea are ¡°bamboo crabs¡± because its legs look like bamboo.
The festival is relatively small-scale but very exciting with the combination of delicious food and a beautiful seascape. During the festival, fresh crabs are sold at moderate prices, which give many people all the reason to visit the festival where they may taste freshly caught crabs.
The snow crab is the highlight of the festival, which its theme is carried out through many of its programs such as competitions for catching crabs in an aquarium and piling up crab shells. Crab-tasting events and crab exhibitions, which display more detailed information about Uljin snow crabs adding more appeal to the festival. In addition, small boat races and a yacht parade are another thrilling excitement.
The Uljin Dae Ge Festival attempts to break the Guinness Book of World Records with a huge Gimbab (Korean-style sushi) stuffed with crab on the second day. Gimbab is given to participants and visitors for free. This is a special experience for everyone.
Furthermore, the price of crabs is moderate compared with other areas. Be sure to get a chance to taste these fresh crabs!
How to get there;
1)Take a bus towards Hupo Port from Dongseoul Terminal in Seoul.
(Once a day at 15:25, takes 4 hrs and 50 min.)
From Hupo Bus Terminal, walk 10 minutes.
2)Take a bus towards Uljin from Dong Seoul Terminal.
(21 times a day, 07:10~20:05, takes 4 hrs and 30 min.)
From Uljin Bus Terminal take another bus towards Hupo Port.
