We are heading out to the super famous Seoraksan a little later than other tour groups to avoid the rush. This mountain still looks gorgeous for a few weeks after the majority of leaves change colour. But it will mean that you won't feel so closed in by the crowds, after all we are going hiking up a mountain, not like walking up the subway stairs during rush hour. Why not join us for a more relaxing visit this weekend.

Seoraksan is one of our favourite hiking trips at Adventure Korea. This huge mountain range provides so many options for both hikers and non-hikers alike. We are offering you the chance to visit this breathtaking area without all the hassle.

Even if you have visited this are at another time of year, you will find it ever changing with the seasons, and worth a second or third visit. If it is your first time, then let us show you some of the best scenery Korea has to offer.

Over the weekend we will include parts of outer Seoraksan and inner Seoraksan. Both areas offer exceptional beauty, and places that seem to be untouched. Due to Seoraksans location we can see many beautiful beaches, try tasty seafood, as well as fresh mountain herbs and vegetables.

On Saturday we will stay in the outer part of Seoraksan. Our first stop will allow you a choice of three hiking trails all from the same part of the mountain range. We will get off the bus and divide into groups according to where you want to go. Our guides have been to this park several times, and know the trails well. They will point you to the right path, and allow you to go at your own pace.

Ulsanbawi Rock is the most difficult hike. This is the longest and most challenging hike of the trip. At the start you will pass a temple, where the path starts off fairly easily, at least until you reach the Heundeul Bawi Rock (Unsteady rock) take a break here for a photo shoot. You will find people trying their hardest to push the rock off. Although it wont move much its fun to give it a go. You can also stop here for some refreshments or get a medal made on your way down to prove that you made it all the way to the top. From Heundeul Bawi you head up to the summit. The path steadily gets more difficult ending with steep steel stairs. Please be patient on these stairs, as there is little space for passing, but you will find its nice to take a quick break and have a look around as you make your way up. Once you reach the summit you can see as far as the East Sea, and all of the Seorak mountain range. Its well worth the work.

A quick warning: The steep stairway heading near the summit of Ulsan Bawi Rock is somewhat dangerous. The stairs are very slippery when wet and hikers must be extremely cautious. If it rains heavily we may not be able to hike all the way up the mountain. This is for the safety of all hikers.

For those less adventurous there is another course that will also offer splendid views of the mountain range. For about W10,000 you can take a cable car up the Geongumseong course. After the six minute ride you can hike the remainder of the track. It should take you 20-30 minutes. Its a well made path, and although parts can be a bit steep it is not too difficult. At the top you can see one more large rock face. If you feel up to it, climb up. You will feel like youre on top of the world, as you breathe the crisp fresh mountain air.

After this hike, head back down to the cable car and onto our third hiking choice.

Biryong Falls Course is an easy trek through gorgeous foliage, crossing over a rushing stream, where you will see many small but equally spectacular waterfalls. At the end of the trek there is a place to rest on a large flat rocky area and take in the beauty around. The main waterfall (Biryong) starts at a great height and drops to a large pool, this area is wonderful for photos.

If you decide to take the cable car you should have plenty of time to also visit the Biryong falls.

After all our hiking expeditions we will head back to the bus and be taken away to Osaek Valley in inner Seoraksan where we will stay the night. Osaek Valley offers great accommodation, delicious food and spas with natural mineral water. Our accommodation has its own spa (hot spring) in the basement, but there is also a fairly new resort just up the road. After dinner this would be a great way to relax your tired muscles. Osaek Hot Spring is called the beauty hot spring and does wonders for the skin. After a long hot soak why not head to the noraebang and sing and dance the night away with your new AK friends.

On Sunday we will head off for another hike right after breakfast. The Mangyeongdae valley course has been closed to the public for the preservation. For more than 20 years it has had the chance to rejuvenate itself, and is now well preserved. We will also visit Jujeonggol Valley, which is famous, as the area where the old yeopjeon coins were made during the Joseon Dynasty. Lying deep between high mountain ridges you will be able to explore these two valleys and see nature at its best.

Also during this hike we will stop at Yongso waterfall. A short, wide waterfall surrounded by greenery. Its beauty inspires many to travel here.

On the way back to our accommodation make sure you stop for a break at Seongguksa Temple where you can see the only remains from the original temple in this area, a three story pagoda. Then carry on to the last bridge where you can easily climb down to the river, to get a taste of the natural mineral water that flows through this valley.

Osaek means five different flavors. The water has strong iron content and is highly carbonated. Its so famous, that people from all over the country come to Seoraksan just for access to it. The fizzy liquid will be refreshing after our morning exercise.

Finally, before we get back on the bus we will have lunch together. Sample some of the locally grown mountain vegetables and chat about the weekends adventures. Then its back on the bus and off to Seoul again.

Mt. Seoraksan National Park
The peaks of the Seoraksan Mountains break through the clouds while jade-like water flows through the valleys, creating breathtaking views and making this Koreas most famous national park. Due to the many rare species found here, UNESCO designated this national park a Biosphere Preservation District in 1982. The mountain range located here stretches over an area of 373 with the highest peak reaching 1,708 meters. The most famous tourist area near Mt. Seoraksan National Park is the city of Sokcho. The eastern part of Sokcho has sparkling water along the coast, while the western part of the city connects to the most famous mountain of the national park. This area is said to be blessed with beautiful natural surroundings: beaches, ski resorts, hot springs, and historic treasures. Accommodations in the area include hotels, condominiums, and small motels. The facilities in the area are well-made to accommodate the three million annual visitors to the park.

Ulsan Bawie Rock Hiking Course
For hikers who want to feel the true beauty of the Seoraksan Mountains this course is a must. The course is relatively easy from the Heundeul Bawi Rock (meaning unsteady rock ) to Gyejoam Hermitage. However, from Gyejoam Hermitage to Ulsan Bawi Rock the 30-minute hike is rather rigorous. The steep steel stairs leading down from Ulsan Bawi Rock are not for the weak-hearted. For those lacking confidence in hiking, its better to avoid this course altogether. However, adventurous hikers wont have any regrets after reaching the summit with fantastic views of the East Sea

Gwoengemsung fortress course
After passing the ticket booth and paying the entrance fee you will see a park where you can get on the cable car. A six-minute ride will take you near the top, followed by a 20-30 minute hike which will take you to Gwongeumseong Fortress at an altitude of 1,200 meters. This location will give you a birds eye view of the Seoraksan Mountains

Seongguksa Temple Site Course –Okseak Area
This highly recommended course allows hikers to feel the beauty of the fantastic valleys that Seoraksan has to offer. The course that runs through Cheonbuldong and Baekdam Valleys, as well as the Seongguksa Temple Site, gives visitors breathtaking views of the Jujeongol Valley. Visitors to this course enter the national park at the Osaek area. After purchasing tickets to the park, follow the course up the mountain that leads to the Seongguksa Temple Site. A three- story stone pagoda at the temple site is all that remains. Following the path along Jujeongol Valley will eventually lead to a forked path. Going to the left will lead to Sibi Falls and the right side will lead to the Yongso Falls. Visitors should note that there arent any forms of public transportation when exiting the park near Yongso Falls. For those that arent able to prepare individual transportation, it would be best to head back on the path that was originally used

Cancellation Policy
The reason why we have these guidelines is because of the problems we've had in the past. Extra people would show up on the day of the trip and have to be turned away because there were no more seats available. Organizing trips, hiring buses and the likes can be expensive, and if people don't turn up without paying it can add to the overall cost of the trip. So by depositing the money into the bank account we can guarantee seats and know who is definitely coming and reduce the overall cost of the trip for you.

If you have paid and would like a refund we have a three day policy. This policy is as follows:

3 days before the trip: Full refund (72 hours from departure time)

2 days before the trip: 50% refund(48 hours from the departure time)

1 day before the trip: 0% refund ( 24 hours or less from the departure time)
