Escape the bustle of Seoul for a rejuvenating 2-day adventure to Sokcho, a charming coastal city located near the stunning Seoraksan National Park. From scenic temples and traditional markets to surfing lessons and mountain hikes, this trip combines Korea’s rich cultural heritage with its natural beauty and outdoor excitement. Whether you’re a nature lover, foodie, or thrill-seeker, this itinerary has something for everyone.
Day 1: Exploring Sokcho – Temples, Surfing, and Local Flavors
Morning: Departure from Seoul We start our journey early in the morning as we depart from Seoul for Sokcho, located on Korea’s northeastern coast. The scenic drive takes you through beautiful countryside views as we head towards the seaside town, known for its refreshing atmosphere and breathtaking natural landscapes.
Late Morning: Visit to Naksansa Temple Our first stop is the serene Naksansa Temple, perched on the cliffs overlooking the East Sea. The temple, dating back to the 7th century, offers a tranquil setting where you can explore beautiful Buddhist architecture, intricate statues, and peaceful gardens. Take a moment to absorb the calm surroundings and, if you wish, enjoy a peaceful walk along the temple’s grounds, offering magnificent views of the ocean below.
Lunch: Local Delights After soaking in the spiritual atmosphere of Naksansa, we’ll head to a local restaurant for a traditional Korean lunch. Enjoy dishes made with fresh ingredients from the surrounding region—perfectly suited to recharge your energy for the adventures ahead. Sokcho is famous for its seafood, so be sure to try some delicious grilled fish or squid dishes.
Afternoon: Surfing Experience at 38 Peace Village Next, we’re off to Gisamoon Beach, where you’ll have the chance to experience the thrill of surfing. Gisamoon Beach is known for its clean, gentle waves—ideal for beginners. Whether it’s your first time on a surfboard or you’re a seasoned surfer, the experienced instructors will guide you through the basics or help you improve your skills in the refreshing waters of the East Sea. It’s a perfect way to have fun and cool off!
Evening: Sokcho Traditional Market & Beach After drying off, we’ll head to the lively Sokcho Traditional Market. This bustling market is filled with local vendors selling fresh produce, seafood, street food, and handmade goods. Wander the narrow aisles, sample local specialties like hotteok (sweet pancakes) or odeng (fish cakes), and pick up souvenirs to take home. After exploring the market, enjoy a relaxing evening at Sokcho Beach, where you can take in the stunning sunset over the ocean.
Day 2: Seoraksan Mountain & Culinary Experience
Morning: Hiking at Seoraksan National Park Start your second day with a visit to Seoraksan National Park, one of Korea’s most famous natural attractions. Known for its majestic mountain peaks, clear streams, and diverse flora and fauna, Mt. Seorak offers stunning landscapes year-round. Whether you choose a moderate hike or take the cable car to the top for panoramic views, you’ll be surrounded by some of the most breathtaking scenery in Korea. Be sure to stop at Sinheungsa Temple, a beautiful Buddhist temple located near the base of the mountain, and enjoy the peace and tranquility of the area.
Lunch: Traditional Korean Cooking Class After your hike, we’ll take you to a Korean cooking class where you’ll learn how to prepare traditional Korean dishes. Under the guidance of a local chef, you’ll discover the secrets behind popular Korean meals, from kimchi to stews. Enjoy the hands-on experience of preparing your own lunch and indulge in the delicious flavors of your creation. It’s a perfect way to get a taste of Korea’s rich culinary culture and bring home new skills to impress friends and family.
Afternoon: Return to Seoul After a day of hiking, cooking, and exploring, we begin our journey back to Seoul. Sit back and relax as we head south, reflecting on the unforgettable memories you’ve made during your time in Sokcho and Seoraksan.
