Adventure Korea has organised a trip to visit the infamous cities of Sokcho and Gangneung . We will be visiting Sokcho for the popular Sokcho Tourism and Fisheries Market and Gangneung for the well-admired birthplace of Neo-Confucian scholar Yi I, Ojukheon! This will be a pleasant experience for you to try different Korean traditions as well, such as dressing up in Hanbok and learning Korean calligraphy.

What to Expect

Sokcho Tourism and Fisheries Market
Sokcho Tourism and Fisheries Market is literally food heaven. Famous for its “dak gangjeong” or sweet and sour chicken, this market is a must visit for many foodies. Other than its well-known dak gangjeong, there are also many different market food for you to enjoy to the utmost. Of course, you also cannot miss out on the fresh seafood offered here. As the market is close to the sea, the market has a wide range of seafood from fresh seafood to dried seafood. You will have a chance to make use of your bargaining skills and try out the different authentic Korean food here. There is also local supermarket for you to shop in, so you can buy some of the local beers and makoli (rice wine) and support the local businesses. Around the area, there is also the Abai Village Ferry, which is a traditional wooden boat. It only takes you 5 minutes to reach Abai Village with 200 won for one way ride. It is definitely worth checking out for the experience.

Ojukheon House
Known as the birthplace of the respected Korean Neo-Confucian scholar, Yi I and his mother, Shin Saimdang, many tourists make their way to visit this well-admired family’s home. They are portrayed on the 5000 won bill and 50,000 won bill respectively. Yi I has been well-respected by Koreans while Shin Saimdang is a symbol of great and wise mother to many. In Ojukheon, you will be able to see the house that Yi I was born in, as well as other houses that he grew up with. There are also statues of them here and there was a saying that if you touch his index finger, you will grow wiser as well!
Ojukheon is a phenomenal place where black bamboos grow given its unique environment. So you may also want to take some photos of the nature here!
