At Adventure Korea, we believe that real-world experiences are powerful tools for education and growth. In our recent experiential learning trip with Seoul Foreign British School in this June, we had an ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) Day event. It was truly a shining example of this philosophy in action. Set against the stunning backdrop of Sokcho, the program combined outdoor adventure, environmental responsibility, and meaningful experiential learning.
Hiking Mr. Seorak: Connecting with Nature
The day began with a challenging yet invigorating hike up Mt. Seorak, one of Korea’s most iconic peaks. Students and faculty explored the lush trails, gaining firsthand appreciation for Korea’s natural beauty while discussing the importance of preserving such ecosystems for future generations.
Microplastic Investigation: Learning Through Science
Following the hike, students took part in a hands-on microplastic investigation along Sokcho’s coastline. Equipped with scientific tools and guided by environmental experts, they collected samples from the beach and analyzed them, uncovering the alarming presence of microplastics in our natural surroundings. This activity highlighted the urgent need for sustainable waste management and conscious consumer habits.
Beach Clean-Up: Taking Action
Understanding the problem wasn’t enough—we also wanted to take action. Participants joined forces for a beach clean-up, collecting trash and debris from the shorelines. It was a powerful reminder that small actions, when multiplied, can have a significant impact on the environment.
Experiential Learning with Impact
This experiential learning trip was about more than just a day out. It was a meaningful opportunity for students to apply classroom knowledge to real-world challenges, develop a deeper sense of environmental responsibility, and experience the power of teamwork and community involvement.
Adventure Korea is proud to lead initiatives like this experiential learning trip with international schools that go beyond traditional education. By immersing students in nature and hands-on environmental activities, we’re helping to shape the next generation of responsible global citizens.
Stay tuned for more impactful experiences from SFBS and Adventure Korea!
