AI is one of the biggest technological advancements of the last decade, and many forward thinking cities are looking for ways to not only adapt to the rise of AI, but to integrate into the daily lives of citizens. Seoul is increasingly using AI throughout the city, and at the AI Smart City Center, visitors can see exactly how the technology is already being applied, as well as its impacts on life in the city.
Located on the 8th floor of the S-Plex building in Mapo, the Smart City Center is easily accessible by bus or subway, being a short walk from Digital Media City station. Visitors are required to make a reservation in advance, however, the process is simple and there is no entry fee. Once visitors arrive, they’ll be greeted by a reception desk, and a networking space with a screen that displays informative videos about AI.
Visitors can enter the AI studio, which displays various statistics collected from throughout Seoul and presented using AI. The displays are accompanied by AI imagery, and the studio is designed to provide an immersive experience that connects citizens to the city.
The center also has an AI administrative innovation area, where visitors learn about how Seoul’s government is using AI to help monitor the city. Some of the uses for AI include crowd density monitoring, wildfire detection, and Han River Bridge surveillance. The center displays how and why these technologies are being used, as well as videos showing AI being applied in real situations throughout the city. Many of these technologies are keeping Seoul safe in real time, and the Smart City Center shows citizens how they are accomplishing this.
The center also highlights AI innovation companies, with several new AI technologies on display in the center for visitors to interact with. Ranging from AI powered battery recycling machines, to AI storybook reading devices, and interactive mental health kiosks, a variety of unique, novel AI technologies are set up for visitors to experience. These new technologies provide great insight into the evolving world of AI, and how it could affect our lives in the future. And for those who want to learn even more about AI, the center has an AI lecture room where visitors can learn about AI in a hands-on fashion.
While not a particularly large attraction, the Seoul Smart AI City Center provides new insights into one of the fastest growing technologies in the world. It provides both visitors and residents of Seoul the opportunity to see how AI is being applied to the city, as well as how it can affect them in their daily lives.
