The DMZ tour to Paju offered students a powerful and eye-opening experience, combining history, education and reflection in one meaningful journey. Visiting one of the most significant and sensitive borders in the world created a unique opportunity to better understand the Korean Peninsula’s past and present. From the moment the tour began, the atmosphere was filled with curiosity and respect for the historical importance of the area.

Starting the Journey
The day began with a comfortable transfer to Paju, where the students received an introduction to the Demilitarized Military Zone (DMZ) and its historical background. Our guide provided insight into the Korean War, the division of North and South Korea and the continued impact this division has today.
As the bus approached the restricted civilian control area, the mood naturally shifted to one of reflection. Seeing the barbed wire fences and military presence made the reality of the division tangible and deeply moving.

Exploring the 3rd Infiltration Tunnel
One of the most impactful moments of the tour was the visit to the 3rd Infiltration Tunnel. Discovered in 1978, this tunnel was built by North Korea and designed to secretly move troops into the South. Walking down into the tunnel allowed students to physically experience this piece of history.
The steep descent and narrow passageways added to the intensity of the visit, giving everyone a real sense of the scale and seriousness of the situation at the time. Safety measures were in place throughout the visit, ensuring that the experience remained secure while still preserving its authenticity. The tunnel stands as a powerful reminder of the tensions that shaped the region’s history.

Standing at the Observatory
After exploring the tunnel, the tour continued to the observatory overlooking North Korea. From this viewpoint, students could look across the border and see parts of the North.
Due to the misty weather that day, visibility was limited and it was unfortunately not possible to clearly see into North Korea. Although binoculars were available, the thick fog covered much of the landscape beyond the border. Even without a clear view, standing at the observatory and knowing how close the group was to one of the world’s most heavily guarded borders was both surreal and thought-provoking. The atmosphere, combined with our guide’s explanations, encouraged quiet reflection among the students.

A Meaningful and Education Experience
The DMZ tour was more than just a visit to a historical site. It was an opportunity for students to learn, reflect and engage with an important chapter of Korean history in a direct and impactful way. The combination of education, guided storytelling and on-site exploration made the experience both informative and deeply memorable.
Beyond this specific tour, similar historical and cultural experiences can be organized for various group sizes. From smaller school groups to larger academic institutions, each tour can be tailored to match educational goals and curriculum focus. By combining expert guidance, structured itineraries and meaningful locations, these experiences create lasting impressions for all students.
The visit to the DMZ in Paju was a powerful reminder of Korea’s history and the ongoing significance of peace and dialogue. Stepping into such a symbolic place leaves students with a deeper understanding and a perspective that stays with them long after the tour ends.
