On November 9th, a dedicated group of volunteers gathered at Mallipo Beach for a clean-up event that was about much more than just picking up trash. This was a day of learning, action, and connection to the environment, an opportunity to make a real impact, raising awareness and understanding the bigger picture of environmental protection. Originally planned for National Clean-Up Day on September 21st, the event was rescheduled due to weather, but the commitment to protecting the planet was strong.
The day saw the collaborative efforts of university students, kayakers, stand-up paddle boarders, and volunteers from Adventure Korea, all working together. Adventure Korea led the charge in tackling the growing issue of microplastic pollution, while kayaks ventured out to a nearby island to collect trash, and stand-up paddle boarders cleaned the ocean’s surface. On land, university students focused their efforts on clearing the beach. With each wave of effort, Mallipo Beach was transformed, one piece of trash at a time.
This remarkable day highlighted not only the power of collaboration but also the critical need for action to protect our environment, reminding us that every small contribution counts in the fight against pollution.
Mallipo Beach is known for its breathtaking coastline and peaceful waters, and is a gem on Korea’s west coast. But like many of the world’s most beautiful beaches, it faces a growing environmental threat: microplastic pollution. Our recent Voluntour focused on this growing problem, with our main goal to clean up Mallipo’s shores by tackling microplastics, which are often invisible but have a major impact on marine ecosystems.
These microplastics, which can come from broken plastic waste or tiny fibers from clothing, are dangerous to marine life. They may seem small, but they cause a lot of harm to our oceans, animals and even humans. The experience was eye-opening for many. It helped us understand the hidden dangers of plastic pollution and why we all need to adopt more sustainable habits. It reminded us that every little piece of plastic, no matter how small, can harm our oceans and ecosystems.
After a successful clean-up, the day’s adventure wasn’t over! To celebrate our efforts, participants enjoyed a relaxing and fun stand-up paddleboarding (SUP) session along the peaceful waters of Mallipo Beach. It was the perfect way to appreciate the natural beauty of the area while reflecting on the work we had done to preserve it
This Voluntour experience was about much more than just picking up trash, it was about raising awareness, connecting with others, and making a real difference for the environment.
By the end of the day, participants didn’t just leave with a sense of accomplishment for cleaning up the beach, they also gained a deeper appreciation for the impact we all have on the planet. It was a chance to reflect on how small actions can lead to big changes, and how each of us plays a part in protecting the oceans and our environment for future generations.
At Adventure Korea, we believe that travel should not only be about discovering new places but also about making a positive impact. That’s why we’ve created Voluntour experiences that combine meaningful environmental action with outdoor adventure. Our recent beach clean up at Mallipo Beach was a perfect example of how a fun day out can also contribute to a cleaner, greener planet.
