Written by : Floor Bijleveld

Cross-country skiing is a type of skiing where participants move across snow-covered terrain using just their own means of movement rather than ski lifts or other means of help. Although cross-country skiing is frequently done for sport and leisure, some people still utilize it for getting about. Cross-country skiing has evolved to accommodate a variety of terrain types, from unimproved, occasionally hilly terrain to groomed courses created especially for the activity.

South Korea has much to offer even Cross-country skiing for locals and foreigners! This Cross-country skiing activity was done where the Pyeongchang 2018 winter Olympics were held! It is definitely worth a try if you like active and adventurous activities!

The activity exists out of learning the basics of Cross-country skiing, going along the tracks, and trying to handle some obstacles like hills and slopes! The first is warming up with basic stretching and exercises. After that, the instructors will explain how to attach the shoes to the skies and how the basic movements work. There are tracks in the snow where you practice first.

After learning the basic movements there is the opportunity to try to go up a small hill and then ski down it afterward, that takes some practice but it is a good challenge! The Singapore American School had a little competition as well! Who was the fastest Cross-country skier and who would reach the finish line first, which was a lot of fun! The group could be split up in two, a group that could practice some more and the other group could take on a little more complex challenge! They cater to how fast you learn and how the practice is going.

After Cross-country skiing, there was also the opportunity to have a beautifully scenic hike in the snow. The hike was around the ski resort and the slopes, the sun was out that day so it was beautiful weather for a hike like this! There are multiple rest stops and photo opportunities on the way, it is truly beautiful!
