A Travel Guide to the Best Pet Cafes in Seoul

By Autumn Seely

From cat cafes to sheep and meerkats, Seoul is a leading destination for pet cafes! Most animal cafes are conveniently located in the neighborhood of Hongdae, so you can walk from cafe to cafe while exploring the lively shops and musical culture on the way! Here are a few of the top animal cafes I visited on my furry-filled adventure.

4. Sunny’s Dog Cafe

This was an absolutely adorable experience filled with the sweetest fury friends around! At Sunny’s Dog Cafe, I was greeted by all sorts of different dog breeds, all very well trained and looking for cuddles! One of the dogs even brought me a drink!

  • Right off the subway! Easy to find.
  • Very foreigner friendly, the staff speak english and are very friendly.
  • Wide variety of dogs, VERY well trained and friendly. I will say they *do* bark whenever a new person arrives, but right after the person enters, they all go back to chilling.
  • The overall vibe is cute, but a little barren. There is not much to do.
  • The price is 11,000 Won, or about 8$ to get in. You get one free drink as well! There are no cafe drinks or food options.
  • 4 stars!

3. Meerkat Friends

This cafe was super fun and exotic! It felt like going to the zoo but you’re allowed to pet and feed everything! With meerkats, racoons, kangaroos, and foxes to name a few, you can experience all the animals at Meerkat friends.

  • A small walk from the main street in Hongdae; easy to find.
  • Foreigner friendly, they speak english.
  • Fun atmosphere, two floors! You can feed the animals, and some of them will jump or sit on you with the help of a worker.
  • 18,000 Won, or 13$ for entrance, must put things in a locker and wear slippers.
  • No food or drinks whatsoever.
  • 5 stars!

2. Thank You Nature

This quaint and cozy cafe is home to two lambs named Vicky and Lucky! They are some of the sweetest sheep you will ever meet. Additionally, compared to a lot of other animal cafes, this one actually provided a full cafe selection menu, including coffees, ades, waffles and bingsu! Come in for a tasty treat and pet some fluffy sheep!

  • Easy to find, right off main Hongdae streets, you can even see the sheep from above!
  • Foreigner friendly! While none of the staff spoke English, the menu was available in English and the staff were super friendly nonetheless!
  • Very cute and cozy inside. Outdoor section is nice as well and very clean.
  • Only two sheep, but there are no entrance fees! You just have to buy a drink or food item and then you can pet the sheep. The cheapest thing on the menu is an americano for 4,400 Won, or about 3$!
  • 5 stars!

1. Roof Cat Meow

While this cafe was the most expensive, it was definitely the most worth it. With over 30 cats checked into this adorable hotel themed cafe, it’s easy to fall in love! The cats come in all shapes and sizes and are all very friendly. The entire cafe is themed like a mini cat city, with cozy little dens to hang out in all around. At the center is a massive hotel wall where all the cats gather during feeding time. For an additional charge, you can feed the cats as well! Plus, there’s a cafe machine where you’re allowed unlimited drinks, such as coffees, ades, and milks.

  • A little hard to find since you have to take an elevator to the basement level, but there are plenty of signs.
  • Very foreigner friendly! Lots of online tools as well that are available in English.
  • SO cute inside!! It’s huge, like a little cat village, probably four times the size of most cafes. It’s very adorable and there’s so many places to sit or lay down and rest. I felt like I could hang out in this cafe all day. There’s even a gift shop!
  • 20,000 Won, or about 15$. You can feed the cats for an additional 1000 won, or about 75 cents.
  • Drinks are free! Not cafe quality since they’re from a machine, but still very good- and unlimited!
  • 5 stars!

Overall, Seoul has a lot to offer with their pet cafes, and these four are definitely worth a visit! Come by and enjoy a tasty drink with a furry friend, play with a fox, or pet a loveable sheep; whatever you’d like, Seoul is the place to find it!
